So it was their second date. They had lot to talk,
conversations were endless. There were only few drops of silence at the end of
each conversation. That too was utilized by eyes to see and feel within. Not a
single moment was wasted. They could talk like a curious kid and they did not
run out of topics to talk, not because it was their second date but because
they were able to see the world with each other’s eyes. Along with the
conversations and laughs, a neatly rolled BoBo Bush and a tub of ice cream kept
them alive through the breezy and bright night. It was then he talked about
nick names. It was then the name 'Jillu' struck in his mind. His mind swirled
to his past.
He, he grew up in a beautiful island, Sri Lanka,
where people grow up valuing and enjoying their culture meanwhile knowing to
respect different cultures and learning to live among different perspectives.
He grew up with movies in which love is described as the best feeling and in
which a guy would go across seven seas and six continents for the love of his
life. Some movies are better than 'The Notebook' and some are even worse than
Twilight. Among all these there was one movie stuck in his mind, 'ஜில்லுனு ஒரு காதல்' (Jillunu Oru Kaathal) meaning 'A Sparkling light on a Dark night'. There they are, the two
of them who are set to become man and wife in real life in a few days’ time,
are shown to be forced into a marriage that they just are not interested in.
The movie plots what happens after the marriage and interpolates the impossible
geometry of true affection. The movie not only showcases love and romance in
cool and icy glamour but also underlines the warm and sunny side of it. The
script gives scope to understand love in its various shades and shines. It also
presents the different meaning of life in different times of one's life and
which he believed too.
"I could call you Jillu, if you like" he
said.
"What does it means?" she asked.
Have you ever felt the touch of an ice cube on a sun
burnt day? And the way it refreshes and relaxes body and mind instantly? It is
the feeling of cold breeze after a heat wave. It is the satisfaction of
crunching the thirst with a bottle of cold water. It is the feeling of fresh
air in the early morning of an autumn. It is the feeling of first rain drop in
the face, it is the feeling you get while walking under the drizzle of a
waterfall. It’s how it feels to roll your own BoBo bush and blaze it in between
an automated day. It’s how it feels to talk to a home boy. It’s how it feels
when a father sees his baby the first time. It’s how it feels to be in love and
to be loved. It’s a magical feeling and a healing.
It is a Sparkling light on a Dark night.
She liked it.
She liked all of it, the name, the story and the
brown man.
And then,
Jillu became her name with calling rights only
for him.
